About AATLA
AATLA is a trusted network of approved water testing laboratories committed to quality, accuracy and public health safety.
Our history
AATLA was formed when a small group of independent testing laboratories recognised that
fragmented practices were undermining public confidence in analytical results. What began as an
informal technical forum became a formally constituted association with a written code of
practice and an admissions review process.
Membership grew steadily as NABL accreditation became central to regulatory compliance in drinking water, well water,
and environmental water testing. Today the association spans accredited laboratories across districts,
covering specialized water quality testing disciplines including bacteriological coliform testing, heavy metal screening,
physico-chemical water parameter testing, and wastewater compliance.
Throughout that growth the founding principle has not changed: a test result is only as good as
the competence, independence and traceability behind it.

Established within a framework formalised in 2022, the association brings laboratories together to promote professional excellence, technical advancement, collaboration, knowledge sharing and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
Today, AATLA looks beyond representing laboratories. It seeks to strengthen the analytical testing ecosystem itself—helping laboratories grow, encouraging scientific excellence and contributing to quality, safety and public confidence.
